Spring-ing

I’m hoping these extra April showers really do bring more May flowers. Mostly cloudy days have been interrupted with a few exceptionally sunny days, which are perfect for a long bike ride. And an early spring bike ride wouldn’t be complete without a spontaneous photoshoot along the way.

I’m always observing the light around me. I often finding myself snapping quick photos on my phone, little studies of light that I usually post on Instagram stories. I often treat these as photography sketches, the quickness of these captures is a practice of seeing. However, carrying around my film camera seemed like a good idea this day, so that I could make some higher quality compositions. As we cruised through new Boston neighborhoods, the sunlit white-brick corner you see below stood out to me. I used various lines created by the light to frame the subjects. Placing my subjects in various poses we enjoyed this 20 minute creative activity, a worthwhile detour on our journey.

These images were shot on Kodak Portra 160.
